Ontario's Funeral, Burial and Cremation Services Act, 2002, - effective July 1, 2012

The Funeral, Burial and Cremation Services Act, 2002 regulates funerals, burials, cremations and related services in the province of Ontario.  This act came into effect on July 1, 2012.  One of the biggest changes for us here at Riverside Cemetery came in the area of contracts.

First of all, Funeral Homes can no longer act on behalf of the cemetery to collect fees for cemetery services UNLESS there is a specific written agreement authorizing them to do so.

Secondly, full contracts are required for every sale of licensed cemetery services in excess of $250.00, and said contracts must be accompanied by an offer to provide copy (paper or electronic) of the Consumer's Guide to Funerals, Burials and Cremation Services; a copy of Cemetery Bylaws; and a copy of the Cemetery Price List.  Please see our ABOUT page.
